Architecture Students take Honor Award

PennDesign Team wins USITT Architecture Award A team of Penn Students, including Amy Campbell and Clark Thenhaus, have received the Honor Award for their 2007 competition submission to the United States Institute for Theatre Technology. The Penn team was pulled together by Amy Campbell and included Penn Theatre students Samantha Lazar, Gisela Garrett, Evean Adelman, Josh Corn. Their project is called Operation Arts - A Grassroots Initiative. The site chosen by their team is located at 40th and Walnut Streets. The site allowed them space to create a front green space that could be used as performance space and casual gathering spaces. For this they developed a series of terraces that split and reconvene, leaving in the void grasses, water, and sand. Sponsored by the USITT Architecture Commission, the Architecture Awards Program honors excellence in the design of theatre projects. They were created in 1994 to recognize architects for superior design work, to increase the interest of architects in USITT, to promote USITT to a larger audience, and to provide resource material for USITT members on contemporary theatre.
